MACON, Ga. -- Members of the Reinhardt College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division I Mercer University, on Saturday morning on the Georgia Children's Home Campus.
Reinhardt had five men and three women participate in the meet with five runners per squad needed to qualify for a team score. NCAA Division I Kennesaw State University won both the women's and men's competitions with scores of 75 and 37, respectively. There were 30 full teams at the event, 17 for the women and 13 for the men.
Kristie Spivey led the way for the Lady Eagles in the 5K race by finishing in 74th place (of 132 runners) with a time of 24:48.47. Melissa Blumer and Jessica Reagin also participated for Reinhardt.
In the men's 8K competition, freshman Leighton Steadman paced the Eagles with a time of 33:36.62 for 98th place among 103 runners. Cody Fulkerson, Channing Hoyt, Chris Higgins and Christian Abrams also ran for Reinhardt.
Both Reinhardt teams will be at the Southern Collegiate Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 10. The meet will be hosted by Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta, Ga.
