MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- In its final game of the 2008-09 season on Saturday afternoon, the Reinhardt College men's basketball team dropped a 78-72 Southern States Athletic Conference decision on the road to the Berry College Vikings at the Steven J. Cage Center.
Reinhardt trailed the entire first half, falling behind 36-25 at halftime. A 16-4 run by the Eagles to open the second half gave them their first advantage of the day, 41-40. After three lead changes, Berry went ahead by 13 points before a 21-9 Reinhardt spurt got the guests within 73-72 with one minute left. From there, the hosts made a field goal and 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch while the Eagles were held scoreless.
Each team had 61 field goal attempts, but the Vikings made 30 for 49.2 percent and Reinhardt 28 for 45.9 percent. Each squad shot an identical 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range and collected 33 rebounds.
Freshman Donterius Sutton produced a career- and game-high 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Eagles while Kordel Alexander ended with 14 points and two steals. Adam Darling tossed in 12 points off the bench.
Reinhardt wraps up its 2008-09 season at 9-21 overall, including 2-16 in SSAC play. Berry moves to 18-11 overall and finishes 9-9 in conference play heading into the SSAC Tournament.
