ROME, Ga. -- On the road in Southern States Athletic Conference play, the Reinhardt College men's basketball team lost 89-73 to the Shorter College Hawks on Thursday night at the Winthrop-King Centre.  

Reinhardt had an early 7-2 lead but Shorter raced ahead 55-34 with a minute left in the first half. Down 57-37 at the intermission, the Eagles got within 15 points in the second half but could get no closer.

The Hawks shot 53.1 percent (34-of-64) from the field, compared to 38.6 percent (22-of-57) for Reinhardt. The Eagles were outrebounded 42-27.

Leading the way for Reinhardt was Kordel Alexander, who tallied a game-high 21 points and had two steals. Quinton Spivey added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Eagles fall to 9-20 overall and 2-15 in the SSAC while Shorter is 15-14 overall and 10-7 in conference play. Reinhardt will wrap up its 2008-09 season with an SSAC contest at the Berry College Vikings on Saturday. Tipoff in Mount Berry, Ga., is slated for 4 p.m., following the Reinhardt-Berry women's game, which begins at 2 p.m.
