WALESKA, Ga. -- On its annual Senior Day, the Reinhardt College men's basketball team had a 10-point first-half lead before losing 86-75 to the Emmanuel College Lions in a Southern States Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon inside the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center.
Reinhardt trailed very early in the contest before going on a 27-13 run. Emmanuel came back to tie the contest, 33-33, but the Eagles regained a 37-35 lead at halftime. The second half featured seven lead changes and three ties before the Lions pulled ahead for good, 54-52, with 12 minutes left. Emmanuel's 11-point winning margin was its largest advantage of the day.
Reinhardt shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field while the Lions made 46.2 percent (24-of-52), including a sizzling 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from three-point range. Both teams attempted 35 free throws, but Emmanuel made 29 for 82.9 percent while the hosts hit 22 for 62.9 percent. The Eagles outrebounded their guests 37-31.
Kordel Alexander finished with 22 points to pace Reinhardt while Shawn Davis came off the bench to collect 13 points and six rebounds. Quinton Spivey added 12 points and five boards in a reserve role.
Prior to the game, Eagles seniors Heath Hooper, Kyle Bishop and Will Long were honored as part of the Senior Day celebration. All three players are four-year members of Reinhardt's basketball program.
The Eagles drop to 9-18 overall and 2-14 in the SSAC while the Lions move to 19-8 overall, including 10-6 in conference play. Reinhardt will play its final non-conference game of the season on Monday at the NCAA Division II North Greenville University Crusaders. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Tigerville, S.C.
