WALESKA, Ga. -- In its home opener on Tuesday night at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center, the Reinhardt College women's basketball team beat the Southern Wesleyan University Lady Warriors 80-63 in the first Southern States Athletic Conference game of the season for both squads.
Down by five points in the first half, Reinhardt called a timeout and then put together a 17-2 run to lead by 10 before settling for a 40-32 halftime lead. Southern Wesleyan got to within seven points once in the second half before the Lady Eagles took their biggest lead of the evening, 69-49, with 7:24 left in the contest.
Reinhardt shot 8-of-10 (80.0 percent) from three-point range, compared to 2-of-16 (12.5 percent) for the Lady Warriors. The Lady Eagles finished at 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field while SWU shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60). Reinhardt won the battle of the boards 42-29.
For the winners, Kinsey Galyon recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds off the bench while Fabiola Toussaint continued her hot shooting by hitting 6-of-8 field goals, including 6-of-7 from three-point territory for 19 points. In her first-ever start, Kelsey Galyon collected a career-high 15 points.
The Lady Eagles are 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the SSAC while SWU falls to 2-2 overall, including 0-1 in conference play. Reinhardt will host the Columbia (S.C.) College Fighting Koalas in another SSAC contest on Thursday at 6 p.m.
