RUTLEDGE, Ga. -- The Reinhardt College men's and women's golf teams opened their 2008 fall seasons at the 3rd Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational earlier this week. The 36-hole event included 18 holes each on Monday and Tuesday at The Creek Golf Course at Hard Labor State Park.
In the men's tournament, Reinhardt shot 302-299--601 for second place, just two strokes behind tournament champion Piedmont in a seven-team field. Chris Cartwright led the way for the Eagles by claiming tournament medalist honors with 70-73--143, one shot under par on the men's par-72, 6481-yard layout. Freshman Tyler Hays shot 78-73--151 to tie for sixth place while Jason Mobley (79-76), Rudi Lee (76-79) and Brandon Hendrix (78-77) all tied for 13th with 155 totals.
Three Reinhardt women competed in the event but four players are needed to record a team score. Methodist College, 11-time defending NCAA Division III national champion, easily captured the tournament title over four other teams with 343-336--679. Megan Lane paced the Lady Eagles by shooting 90-92--182 to tie for 12th on the women's par-72, 5804-yard course. Also participating for Reinhardt were Jesse Larson and Katie Cash.
Both Reinhardt squads will take part in another event hosted by Piedmont, the 6th Annual The Orchard Fall Invitational, on Sept. 16. The one-day, 18-hole tournament will be played at The Orchard Golf & Country Club in Clarkesville, Ga.
