WALESKA, Ga. -- Kimmie Bunten, a second baseman/shortstop from Auburn, Ga., has signed an athletic grant-in-aid to attend Reinhardt College in the fall and play softball for the Lady Eagles under head coach Glen Crawford. Bunten will come to Reinhardt from Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., where she played for head coach Alex Holmes.
"Kimmie will give us depth at the middle infield positions," Crawford said. "She will solidify that area for us and will compete for playing time. She's also a fine student-athlete who does very well in the classroom."
Bunten, the daughter of Ronnie and Teresa Bunten, was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Apalachee. This past season, she helped lead the Lady Wildcats to a 28-10 overall record and Final Four finish in the class AAA state tournament. Bunten was a 2007 Second Team All-Northeast Georgia selection after batting .279 with a home run, 23 runs scored, 20 RBIs and nine stolen bases. As a junior in 2006, Bunten was a First Team All-Northeast Georgia honoree after leading Region 8-AAA with a .393 batting average.
"My sister went here and graduated this past year," Bunten said. "She said it was a good school so I decided to come here."
Bunten was also considering Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn., before choosing the Lady Eagles.
