WALESKA, Ga. – For the second time, Reinhardt College softball player Whitney Fagge has been named as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in the sport of softball. To receive the award, a student-athlete must be a junior or above in academic standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale, and have been in attendance at the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
Besides this year, Fagge was also chosen as a scholar-athlete at the national level in 2007. She was a member of Lady Eagles' softball program the past four seasons.
Fagge, an outfielder from Gainesville, Ga., earned a spot on the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team each of the last four years. She was also an NAIA Academic All-America selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2006. Fagge, an English major, is expected to graduate with honors from Reinhardt next year.
A total of 277 softball players from 116 schools across the country earned scholar-athlete accolades. However, there were just 10 honorees from the eight SSAC institutions that sponsor intercollegiate softball.
Under first-year head coach Glen Crawford, the Lady Eagles completed their fourth season of intercollegiate softball competition in 2008 with a 32-23 overall record, including 13-15 in the conference for fourth place.
