FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Reinhardt College softball team concluded its 2008 regular season on Tuesday by losing two games to the host Emmanuel College Lady Lions in a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader. Reinhardt dropped the first contest 5-2 and the second 6-3.
In the opening game, the Lady Eagles scored once in the top of the first inning before Emmanuel tallied four runs in the bottom half. The Lady Lions added to their lead with one run in the sixth inning before Reinhardt concluded the scoring with a run in the seventh.
Each club finished with six hits. The Lady Eagles left eight runners on base and did not commit an error. Emmanuel made two errors and stranded six baserunners.
Casey Hollifield (Dallas, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Reinhardt while Shastin Rader (Palmetto, Fla.) was 1-for-2 with a walk. Cassie Davis (Metter, Ga.) ended 1-for-3 with a double and walk while Sarah Brown (Woodstock, Ga.) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Nicole Rice (Douglasville, Ga.) accounted for the Lady Eagles' other hit while Katie Cash (Locust Grove, Ga.) drew a walk and scored a run. Cassie Gee (Easley, S.C.) chipped in with an RBI.
In the circle for Reinhardt, Tiffany Reeves (Acworth, Ga.) was the starter and loser, pitching all six innings with six strikeouts.
The Lady Lions snapped a scoreless tie in the second contest by scoring once in the fourth inning and five times in the fifth before the Lady Eagles put together a three-run seventh.
Emmanuel outhit Reinhardt 9-5 and was guilty of three errors, compared to none for the Lady Eagles. The hosts left seven runners on base and Reinhardt six.
Offensively for the Lady Eagles, Gee went 1-for-1 with a two-run double as a pinch hitter while Hollifield was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Davis finished 1-for-2 with a walk while Angela Lack (Woodstock, Ga.) had a hit in three at-bats. Cash ended 1-for-4 with an RBI while Rader and Dana Jackson (Griffin, Ga.) each scored a run.
Ashley Bramhall (Houston, Texas) was Reinhardt's starting and losing pitcher, throwing 4⅓ innings with four strikeouts. Alex Riccardi (Americus, Ga.) tossed the final 1⅔ innings, allowing one hit and no runs.
The Lady Eagles fall to 31-21 overall and finish 13-15 in the SSAC (fourth place) while the Lady Lions are 30-20-1 overall and ended 11-17 in conference play (sixth). Reinhardt, the No. 4 seed, will begin play in the SSAC Tournament against the Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons, seeded fifth, on Thursday at 10 a.m. If the Lady Eagles defeat Brewton-Parker, they will advance to play on Friday at noon. A first-round loss means that Reinhardt would come back and play on Thursday at 6 p.m. The eight-team, double-elimination event is being hosted by Shorter College in Rome, Ga.
