WALESKA, Ga. – Reinhardt College baseball player Daniel Jape, a senior outfielder/first baseman from Woodstock, Ga., has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his play from April 14-20. It marks the first time Jape has ever received the honor.
In hitting safely in all six games last week, Jape batted .435 (10-for-23) with four home runs, three doubles, three walks, nine runs scored and 15 RBIs. He had a slugging percentage of 1.087 as Reinhardt went 3-3.
On the season, Jape is leading Reinhardt in homers (17) and RBIs (80) while batting .352 with a .699 slugging percentage. He leads the SSAC and is among the NAIA national leaders in both RBIs per game (1.63) and home runs per game (0.35).
The Eagles, 28-26 overall and 10-17 in the conference, will begin play in the SSAC Tournament, hosted by Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala., on Wednesday. No. 7-seed Reinhardt will take on the No. 2-seeded Auburn University at Montgomery Senators, ranked 15th in the nation, at 10 a.m. Central time (11 a.m. Eastern).
