PULASKI, Tenn. – The Reinhardt College baseball team was at Martin Methodist College on Tuesday, and lost 13-11 to the RedHawks in a non-conference contest at Sam Davis Park.
Martin Methodist led 3-0 after two innings before Reinhardt rallied with a four-run third. The RedHawks regained the lead with three runs in the fourth inning, but the Eagles tied the game at 6-6 by scoring twice in the top of the fifth. The hosts snapped the deadlock with four runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, taking a 12-6 advantage. Reinhardt fought back with three runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth, making the score 12-11, but MMC concluded the scoring with an insurance run in the bottom half of the eighth.
Martin Methodist doubled the Eagles’ hit count, 14-7. Each team committed four errors.
For Reinhardt, Chris Nuckolls (Canton, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three runs scored and two RBIs while Jay Proffit (Marietta, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored. Joe Niehoff (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished 1-for-2 with an RBI while James Greer (Woodstock, Ga.) went 1-for-3 with two bases on balls and a run scored. Jarrod Willis (Douglasville, Ga.) homered, drove in four runs and scored twice while Daniel Jape (Woodstock, Ga.) also connected for a home run and had two RBIs. Michael Willis (Douglasville, Ga.) and Billy King (Marietta, Ga.) each scored a run.
On the mound for the Eagles, Matt Carter (Canton, Ga.) got the start and took the loss, going 4⅓ innings and allowing three earned runs.
Reinhardt falls to 18-17 overall while the RedHawks are 19-12. The Eagles are slated to play a Southern States Athletic Conference game at Auburn University at Montgomery – ranked 19th nationally in the NAIA – on Friday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Central time (7 p.m. Eastern) in Montgomery, Ala.
