ROME, Ga. – On Tuesday, the Reinhardt College men’s golf team concluded the first event of its 2008 spring season – the two-day, 36-hole Rome News-Tribune Invitational, hosted by Berry College at the par 72, 6835-yard Stonebridge Golf Club. Reinhardt finished in 17th place among a strong field of 19 squads with a score of 645.
Drew Hayes (Chatsworth, Ga.) finished as the Eagles’ scoring leader after shooting 79-78—157 to tie for 60th place among 108 participants. Following Hayes were Jason Mobley (Dalton, Ga.), who finished at 77-82—159, tying for 66th place, and Jordan Bentle (Woodstock, Ga.), who fired an 82-81—163, tying for 79th. Rounding out Reinhardt’s scoring was Joe Liptak (Lemont, Ill.), who ended in a tie for 88th place with 83-83—166.
The tournament featured three teams ranked among the top 15 nationally in the NAIA, including host Berry (No. 8), Lindenwood University (No. 9) and Campbellsville University (No. 12). Lindenwood won the event with a 4-over-par 580 while the host Vikings finished in second place at 583 and Campbellsville in a tie for fourth at 592.
The Eagles will compete in the 2nd Annual Piedmont College Spring Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at The Creek at Hard Labor State Park Golf Course in Rutledge, Ga.
