WALESKA, Ga. – By the identical scores of 8-3, the Reinhardt College baseball squad won two games with the University of Virginia’s College at Wise Highland Cavaliers on Tuesday afternoon at the Jim & Syble Boring Sports Complex.
 
In the opening contest, UVA-Wise got out to a 1-0 lead but it was short-lived as Reinhardt scored four times in the bottom of the first inning. The Highland Cavaliers trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with a two-run third inning, but the Eagles pulled away by scoring twice in the each of the fourth and sixth innings.

Reinhardt produced 11 hits with UVA-Wise getting eight. Each team committed an error and left eight runners on base.

Daniel Jape (Woodstock, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI for the winners while Greg Ihlenburg (Canton, Ga.) also had two hits in three at-bats with a walk and pair of runs scored. Freshman Harry Nutter (Jonesboro, Ga.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while James Greer (Woodstock, Ga.) had a two-run pinch-hit double. Joe Niehoff (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI while Chad Hiddleson (Marietta, Ga.) went 1-for-3. Jarrod Willis (Douglasville, Ga.) singled, scored a run and had an RBI while twin Michael Willis (Douglasville, Ga.) also had a hit and drove in two runs. Daniel Hester (Atlanta, Ga.) added a walk, sacrifice bunt and run scored.

On the hill for the Eagles, Matt Dalton (Suwanee, Ga.) started and got the win, going five innings and allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts. Brian Wallace (Douglasville, Ga.) gave up two hits and no runs over the final two innings to record a save.

In game two, Reinhardt led 4-0 after five innings by scoring once in the second inning and three times in the fifth. The Highland Cavaliers again made it a one-run game at 4-3 with three runs in the sixth inning, but the Eagles answered with four in the bottom half.

Reinhardt outhit its guests 7-5 and took advantage of five errors by the Highland Cavaliers.

At the plate for the Eagles, Hiddleson ended 2-for-3 with a double, run scored and an RBI while Brad Blalock (Grayson, Ga.) went 1-for-1 with a pinch hit and run scored. Nutter was 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored while Greer finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Michael Willis doubled in two at-bats with an RBI and a run scored while Ihlenburg went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jarrod Willis scored a run while Niehoff and freshman Bryan Cash (Loganville, Ga.) each contributed an RBI.

Matt Carter (Canton, Ga.) was the starting and winning pitcher for Reinhardt, tossing 5⅓ innings and allowing just three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Tim Duncan (Acworth, Ga.) earned a save by going the final 1⅔ innings, giving up no runs with a strikeout.

The Eagles improve to 14-12 overall while UVA-Wise falls to 8-9. Reinhardt will be in Rome, Ga., on Friday for a Southern States Athletic Conference game vs. the Shorter College Hawks. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
