WALESKA, Ga. – On Saturday afternoon, the Reinhardt College women’s basketball team had its season come to an end with a 75-56 Southern States Athletic Conference loss to the Berry College Lady Vikings. It also marked Senior Day at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center with Reinhardt seniors Nichole Willis (Meansville, Ga.) and Shae Almon (Carrollton, Ga.) being honored before the game.
The Lady Eagles led 19-18 before Berry finished the first half on a 17-8 run, taking a 35-27 halftime lead. Reinhardt got within two points after the intermission but the Lady Vikings put the game out of reach with a 33-8 spurt, establishing a 27-point advantage with less than six minutes left in the contest.
Berry shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field, compared to 33.9 percent (21-of-62) for the Lady Eagles. Reinhardt had 18 turnovers while forcing 23, but was outrebounded 51-28.
Willis, an All-SSAC candidate, concluded her collegiate career with a game-high 18 points for the Lady Eagles while freshman Dallas Smith (Douglasville, Ga.) scored nine. Karina Gass (Miami, Fla.) also collected nine points in a reserve role.
Reinhardt wraps up its 2007-08 campaign at 10-20 overall and 5-15 in the SSAC while the Lady Vikings improve to 24-6 overall, including 17-3 in conference play. Berry will enter next week’s SSAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed while the Lady Eagles failed to qualify for the eight-team event, which is being hosted by Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
