KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The No. 2-seed Reinhardt University softball team captured the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament championship for the second straight year on Friday afternoon with a 6-0 blanking of the fourth-seeded Virginia Intermont College Lady Cobras at Domtar Park. Reinhardt receives the AAC's automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament for the second season in a row.

Reinhardt broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Eagles tacked on a single run in the fifth inning and scored three times in the sixth in posting their 23rd shutout win of 2012.

Reinhardt ended with an 11-3 advantage in hits and played error-free in the field while Virginia Intermont made three errors that led to three unearned runs for the Lady Eagles. Reinhardt stranded 10 base runners and the Lady Cobras four.

Nikki Roddy led the charge for the winners by going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs while Jennie Chamness was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Lindsey Booker went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Bailey Arnaud finished 1-for-2 with a double and sacrifice bunt.

In the pitching department, Maddie Monroe earned the victory for the Lady Eagles with a complete game. Over seven innings, she struck out seven and walked none.

Reinhardt improves to 34-11 overall while VIC wraps up its 2012 season at 24-28. The Lady Eagles begin play on Thursday, May 17 at the 32nd Annual NAIA Softball National Championship event in Gulf Shores, Ala. More information, including the tournament schedule is available on the NAIA website.
