EAST POINT, Ga. -- On the road in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening, the Reinhardt University men's basketball team picked up a 70-54 victory over the Point University Skyhawks at Alumni Hall.
After 11 lead changes and five ties, Point established a 32-29 halftime advantage. The teams continued to go back-and-forth early in the second half before Reinhardt took control with a 30-10 run and led 61-45 with 5:26 to go. From there, the closest the Skyhawks could get was 11 points (61-50) with three minutes left.
The Eagles shot 46.0 percent (29-of-63) from the floor and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free throw line while Point ended at 37.0 percent (20-of-54) and 57.9 percent (11-of-19), respectively. Reinhardt outrebounded the Skyhawks 35-33.
For the winners, Tyler Blackwell scored a game-high 22 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and handed out three assists while Ishmael John collected 20 points, along with a season- and game-best six steals. David Lawson finished with 16 points and three assists off the bench while freshman Matt Porter added seven rebounds.
The Eagles are 11-9 overall and 6-3 in AAC play while Point dips to 6-16 overall, including 3-6 in the conference. Reinhardt is at home on Saturday to play an AAC contest against the Virginia Intermont College Cobras at 6 p.m. inside the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center. The game follows the Virginia Intermont-Reinhardt women's game that starts at 4 p.m.
