EAST POINT, Ga. -- The Reinhardt University women's basketball team defeated the host Point University Lady Skyhawks 58-48 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game at Alumni Hall on Wednesday.
Reinhardt never trailed in the contest and built a 36-17 lead at halftime. The Lady Eagles led by 21 points (38-17) early in the second half before Point cut its deficit to seven (53-46) with 2:50 left.
The winners shot 46.5 percent (20-of-43) from the field while the Lady Skyhawks finished at just 18.8 percent (12-of-64). Reinhardt had 15 assists and six blocked shots, compared to four and one, respectively, for Point. The hosts ended with a slight 40-38 edge in rebounds.
Kareen Abling, Rebecca Yarbrough, Ann Wilcher and Danielle Tidwell all came off the bench to lead the Lady Eagles' balanced scoring attack. Abling had eight points and two steals, Yarbrough scored seven points, Wilcher collected six points and a game-high three blocked shots, and Tidwell also tallied six points. Starter Jordan Marsh chipped in with eight rebounds and a pair of steals.
Reinhardt moves to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in AAC play while the Lady Skyhawks are 7-12 overall, including 1-9 in the conference. The Lady Eagles host an AAC contest this Saturday with the Virginia Intermont College Lady Cobras, who received nine points in this week's NAIA Division II poll to rank No. 34 nationally. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center with the Virginia Intermont-Reinhardt men's game following at approximately 6 p.m.
