WALESKA, Ga. -- On its home court, the Reinhardt University women's basketball team suffered a 65-46 Appalachian Athletic Conference loss to the Tennessee Wesleyan College Lady Bulldogs at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. Tennessee Wesleyan, which received 11 points in this week's NAIA Division II poll to rank 32nd nationally, extended its winning streak to five games.
After seven lead changes and three ties, the Lady Bulldogs went ahead for good, 22-21, at the 4:15 mark of the first half. TWC led 31-28 at halftime before Reinhardt got to within one point (33-32) with 15:56 to go. From there, Tennessee Wesleyan went on a 23-5 run to lead 56-37 with five minutes left. The Lady Eagles could get no closer than 14 points (56-42) the rest of the way.
"We just have to find some consistency," Reinhardt head coach Amanda Clonts said. "We've seen games a lot where we can't put two halves together. We'll come out strong in the first half, and then lapse in the second, or vice versa. We have to find some consistency in putting 40 minutes together."
The hosts ended at 22.6 percent (12-of-53) from the floor and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the free throw line, compared to 38.5 percent (25-of-65) and 65.0 percent (13-of-20), respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Eagles, who outrebounded their guests 47-39, were guilty of 19 turnovers to TWC's eight.
Jordan Marsh recorded a double-double for Reinhardt with game highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds while Monique Blanding had seven points and a season-best six boards. Erin Courington added nine rebounds.
The Lady Eagles are 10-11 overall and 5-4 in the AAC while Tennessee Wesleyan improves to 13-6 overall, including 7-2 in conference play. Reinhardt travels to play the Point University Lady Skyhawks in an AAC contest on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in East Point, Ga. The Reinhardt-Point men's game follows at approximately 7:30 p.m.
