DAYTON, Tenn. -- On the road in Appalachian Athletic Conference play, the Reinhardt University men's basketball team dropped a slim 71-68 decision to the Bryan College Lions at Summer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Reinhardt had an early lead but Bryan went on a 14-2 run to move ahead 16-7 with 12:40 to go in the first half. The Lions held a 31-21 advantage at halftime and upped the lead to 41-26 with 16:38 left. In the final minute, the Eagles got to within a single point (69-68) before Bryan knocked down two free throws. Reinhardt missed two three-point attempts in the final seconds.
The Eagles shot 37.3 percent (25-of-67) from the floor, including 29.4 percent (10-of-34) from three-point territory while the Lions ended at 46.7 percent (28-of-60) and 37.5 percent (6-of-16), respectively. From the foul line, Reinhardt was 8-of-9 (88.9 percent) while the hosts finished 9-of-15 (60.0 percent). Bryan outrebounded the Eagles 40-38 and both squads had 12 turnovers.
David Lawson collected a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Reinhardt while Ishmael John recorded 11 points, six boards and four assists. Freshman Matt Porter scored a career-best 10 points while Luke Joseph contributed eight points and seven rebounds in a reserve role. Jerome Carmichael added seven points, six boards, and a season- and game-high six assists.
The Eagles fall to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in AAC play while the Lions move to 9-12 overall and are also 4-3 in the conference. Reinhardt hosts an AAC contest with the Tennessee Wesleyan College Bulldogs this Saturday at 4 p.m. inside the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center. The game follows the Tennessee Wesleyan-Reinhardt women's matchup that is set for 2 p.m.
