CANTON, Ga. – Anna Oswald, a 5-11 first baseman/outfielder from Canton, Ga., has signed to attend Reinhardt College next fall and play softball for the Lady Eagles under first-year Head Coach Glen Crawford. Oswald will come to Reinhardt from Sequoyah High School and is Crawford’s third signee so far this fall.
“Anna is a hard worker and knows the game,” Crawford said. “With her being able to play first base and the outfield, she will help plug the holes that need to be filled. She also is a good hitter with lots of pop in her bat. She should help us right away and compete for playing time.”
Oswald, the daughter of Rob and Teresa Oswald, played on the varsity team as a freshman and sophomore at Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., before transferring to Sequoyah. This past season, she was named the Lady Chiefs’ top defensive player and helped lead her team to a 28-2 overall record and runner-up finish in Region 5AAAA. In a showdown with defending Class AAAAA state champion Woodstock High School on Sept. 26, Oswald led Sequoyah to a 10-6 win by going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Oswald’s fine performance in that game earned her Cherokee Tribune Female Athlete-of-the-Week honors for Oct. 5.
“I think Reinhardt is the perfect school for me,” Oswald said. “It’s small and has everything I am looking for, including a great art program and a great softball team. I’ve known Coach Crawford for a little while and he just seems like the perfect coach for me. Also, it’s close to home so my parents can come watch all of the home games, and my grandparents aren’t too far away, and that’s very important.”
Oswald chose the Lady Eagles over NCAA Division II University of West Georgia (Carrollton, Ga.), Southern States Athletic Conference foe Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.), and two-year institutions Truett-McConnell College (Cleveland, Ga.) and Georgia Perimeter College (Decatur, Ga.).
