CLEVELAND, Tenn. – On Halloween night, the Reinhardt College men’s soccer team was far from scared of the nation’s No. 17-ranked team in the NAIA as the Eagles battled Southern States Athletic Conference member Lee University to a scoreless tie through more than 50 minutes before dropping a 3-1 decision. Reinhardt’s loss in the first round of the NAIA Region XIII Tournament concluded its season.
Early in the second half, Lee began the scoring with a goal in the 51st minute but the Eagles answered less than five minutes later when Spencer Davidson (Tucker, Ga.) knocked home a goal off an assist from Padraig McDonagh (Drogheda, Ireland), tying the score. The Flames broke the tie with a goal in the 70th minute and tacked on another in the 82nd minute to advance to the tournament semifinals.
Reinhardt wraps up its season at 10-8 overall after making its second regional tournament appearance in the last five years under Head Coach Dan Farnham.
Lee, 15-4-3 overall, will now play the University of Mobile, the top seed, in a semifinal contest on Saturday night in Mobile, Ala. Mobile is 14-3-1 overall and ranked sixth nationally in the NAIA.
