WALESKA, Ga. -- In its 2010 home opener on Monday afternoon, the Reinhardt University men's soccer team picked up a lopsided 9-0 Labor Day win over the visiting Tennessee Temple University Crusaders in a non-conference contest at Ken White Soccer Field.
Reinhardt took the lead for good just 16:06 into the game and tallied five more goals to move ahead 6-0 at halftime. The Eagles added three more goals in the final 45 minutes for an easy victory.
Freshman John Connolly recorded a hat trick for the winners, collecting one goal in the opening 45 minutes and two goals in the second half. Robert Roddie ended with a goal and two assists while Mark Withers provided one goal and one assist. Denny Jones, Tom Wilson, freshman Branden Ferreira and freshman Steven Campbell each had a goal while freshman Steven Van Lierop and Francisco Ortega dished out a pair of assists apiece. Credited with one assist each were Joseph Tetrault and Chris Baker.
Reinhardt outshot Tennessee Temple 33-7, including 20-2 in the first half. Of those total shots, 19 of the Eagles' were on goal, compared to just two for the Crusaders. Reinhardt earned nine corner kicks and the guests only one.
In goal, Zack Schultze played the full 90 minutes for the Eagles. He made two saves in posting the shutout.
Reinhardt moves to 1-0-1 overall while TTU falls to 1-5. The Eagles host a non-conference match with the Covenant College Scots on Thursday at 4 p.m.
