WALESKA, Ga. -- In its 2010 home opener on Wednesday evening, the Reinhardt University volleyball team improved to 5-0 overall on the young season, matching its best start in school history, after hammering the NCAA Division III Wesleyan College Pioneers 3-0 (25-4, 25-9, 25-7) in non-conference play inside the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center.
Reinhardt completely dominated the match, serving 31 aces to just one for Wesleyan. The Lady Eagles finished with 32 kills and a .510 attack percentage, compared to two and -.208, respectively, for the Pioneers.
Leading the way for the winners was Sami Lane, who recorded match highs with 10 kills, a .909 hitting percentage and four digs. Candace Turcotte had five kills while Isa Costa posted match bests of 12 assists and eight service aces. Tori O'Brien contributed seven service aces while Courtney Byrd added 10 assists and six service aces.
Reinhardt remains perfect under first-year head coach Jenny Hayes while Wesleyan is 0-1. The Lady Eagles begin Appalachian Athletic Conference play on the road this Saturday when taking on the Union College Lady Bulldogs, the preseason favorite to claim the AAC regular season championship. The match is slated for 1 p.m. in Barbourville, Ky.
